Rottingdean and Saltdean

The village of Rottingdean is actually older than Brighton, whilst Saltdean grew mainly in the 1930's.

From Brighton take the A259 towards Newhaven. Bus services 12, 14, 27, 47 and 712 come in from Brighton. The Undercliff walk from Saltdean to Brighton is a nice walk in summer. With a little luck you get soaked by a wave.

In Rottingdean the car parking area just north of the A259 next to the White Horse Hotel which overlooks the beach.

In Saltdean the car parking area just north of the A259. The Whitecliffs Cafe overlooks the beach. Toilets are available halfway up the cliff ramp on Saltdean Beach.

The shingle beaches between rock groynes are quieter than Brighton, backed by high chalk cliffs. At low tide rock pools appear and provide great fun. Bring a change of clothes as you probably get soaking wet.

Lifeguard cover is provided during the school summer holidays from 10:00 - 18:00 on both Saltdean and Rottingdean beaches. They fly a warning flag when the sea is unsuitable for bathing. The beach is cleaned regularly. It is manually picked for litter daily in the summer. Bins are available. Dogs are banned on two of the four beaches from May to September. No routine sewage discharge has been identified.

Ask us for details as they change with the seasons.

Pool Training
Most Monday and Friday evenings, 20:00 to 21:30.

Sea Swimming
Wednesday mornings, 7:00 to 8:00 Saltdean Beach, subject to weather conditions.

We welcome swimmers from ethnic and social minorities. Everyone is encouraged to learn and develop valuable skills based on their personal best in fitness, skills, leadership, and teamwork.

Our training includes personal survival, rescue skills, water safety, plus regular resistance and endurance swim training. You set your own goals for your desired fitness level.

Realistic Swim Training

Lifesaving training consists of the best elements from British, Dutch and German lifesaving courses with a focus on realism rather than a rigid plan. It involves some theory and lots of practice in the water.

Survival swimming sessions are based on the Dutch "Zwem ABC", which provides the best introduction into aquatic survival we have found so far. We've added a few bits to make it more fun and more challenging.

Survival swimming and lifesaving is all about being prepared for the unexpected. You may not have the opportunity to change into your surf shorts when an emergency arises.

Therefore, we swim in clothes to prepare for this with realistic training, something most clubs overlook. Being prepared can save lives.

Give it a try sometime. It is terrific fun. You'll be amazed. If you don't have some of the gear needed, let us know and we may be able to lend you some survival swimming kit.

During our training we hydrate properly to keep performance levels up. Afterwards we enjoy a yummy big Herbalife 24 protein shake to rebuild muscles and get strong.
